This is one of those amps you don’t get to see everyday, much less plug in and jam on. This absolutely awesome 1953 Fender Tweed Pro Amp came in the other day, and man is it sweet!! Don’t let the looks fool you – the body is a little rough, but the guts are golden – and mostly original. From what we can tell, the handle has been replaced, the power cord, as well as a majority of the caps… but that just has to be done sometimes.
You don’t get much more vintage than this… An incredible tone comes from pushing 15 watts through two EL37s and a 15″ Jensen Alnico speaker while the controls are wonderfully simple (instrument volume, mic volume, tone… that’s it). Here’s a link to the listing
The best part about getting amazing gear in the doors, is that it attracts amazing musicians. Check out what this Tweed can do being demonstrated by two talented St. Louis guitarists, Jim Comparato and Steve Bauer!! (please excuse my horrible camera abilities)
Big thanks to both Jim and Steve for letting me video tape them and showing off this monster of an amp.
Below are some extra pics showing where water had obviously soaked in the wooden cabinet and grill cloth at one time. The good news is it did not hit the electronic components, and the integrity of the box is still strong.
The amp also came with all it’s original caps and power cord that were changed out during its maintenance.
Even with all of its imperfections, it has a sound and feeling about it that is just untouchable by modern day amplifiers. Do yourself a favor and stop by to see this one before it goes! (to my basement)
And as always – be sure to check out the Music Go Round St. Louis Web Site to see and buy all of our gear!
