Greco “Arthur Smith” Hollow-Body 12 String Guitar
Picked this gem up at an auction in Illinois, and what a score! The previous owner had it strung up as a 6-string and the neck looked really good. I was wondering if anything would change when we put on all 12 strings… nope. The neck stayed true with its baseball bat size, and it played even better. Both pickups sounded great after a little cleaning, and the body was in great shape.
Arthur Smith was a very important part of the Carolina’s music scene, living from April 1921 – April 2014. Growing up in South Carolina and eventually moving to Charlotte, NC, Smith ran the first commercial recording studio in the southeast. He was in many mediums including radio and TV, but became nationally known for writing and recording Dueling Banjos and Guitar Boogie. The latter gave him the nickname Arthur “Guitar Boogie” Smith.
This 60’s Vintage 12-string hollow-body electric guitar was designed by Greco for Arthur Smith It is very similar to the Country Squier model, made in Japan, and has all original hardware, electronics, and parts.
The Greco hollow-body features a Walnut top and back, a Lemonwood neck with a Rosewood fretboard and creme binding all around. The neck is a thick D-shape profile, and the action on the neck is so nice. The pickups have a sweet vintage punch with a good balance of highs and lows.
Once again a cool piece of history comes through the store, and this one tempted me big time… Unfortunately, it sold about 24 hours after it hit the wall! So long pal
