We LOVE the rare stuff. The one offs. The boutiques. The limited releases. The smaller brands. The knock-offs…

There are amazing axes all over. Stuff that doesn’t just fit the mold of our ‘traditional heroes’.

Jimmy Page played a Telecaster and a Les Paul, we know – but, did you know he also played a Danelectro 3021? On the monster track Kashmir no less… An oddball guitar made of Masonite and plywood with lipstick pickups. Cheapo but coolio!

Everybody knows EVH’s early ‘strats’ were hybrid weirdos compiled by the man himself from Boogie Bodies and Charvel parts. But Eddie also wielded an Ibanez Destroyer. A Japanese knockoff of a Gibson Explorer made of Sen (Japanese Ash) – all of the early VH tunes without whammy bar – that’s that Ibby ripper.

Joe Perry of Aerosmith has played many weirdos. A slew of BC Rich’s – and a Dan Armstromg guitar made in the 70’s of very heavy Plexiglass. See-through, heavy as a Volkswagon – and awesome.

One last nod – Slash’s Les Paul from Appetite for Destruction and their early days – NOT a Gibson. It was a knockoff made by Kris Derrig. Slash ultimately priced that builder’s instruments out of reach for most people. They usually go for much more than a real Gibson (Except the 50’s flavors of course which are worth the price of a good home now).

So – the summary is – if you got weirdos you don’t want – we love them. Sometimes they can be hard to price – and not all are worth small fortunes. That don’t mean they won’t be loved. They most certainly have a match.
