New Year’s Resolution: Learn To Play An Instrument

December 30, 2019 by MGRSTL

The New Year is upon us, and as we put 2019 in the rear-view mirror, it’s time to start planning what changes we will make in our lives for 2020.

If you’re looking for something different than the stereotypical New Year’s resolutions of going to the gym, why don’t you try something that is fun and beneficial: Learning to play an instrument.

Whether you played as a kid and want to pick it back up or you have never tried an instrument at all, there are a number of benefits to learning an instrument that make it a great resolution for 2020.

Why You Should Learn To Play An Instrument In 2020

There are many benefits to learning a musical instrument, and the best part is, you’re never too old to learn! If you’ve ever felt an itch to strum a guitar, play the piano or beat on some drums, then make your New Year’s Resolution one that will be fun and beneficial!

Here are 5 reasons to learn an instrument in 2020:

Reduce Stress

Numerous studies have found that music is a natural stress reducer. Learning to play an instrument helps give you a productive hobby to help take your mind off your worries while allowing you to enjoy the stress-reducing benefits of music!

Improve Confidence

As you learn to play an instrument, the confidence you gain from improvement can have a spillover effect onto other areas of your life. Additionally, as you progress, playing in front of audiences (even just friends and family) can give a significant boost to your confidence.

Engage Your Brain

Learning to play an instrument engages both sides of your brain, helping to improve concentration and memory.

Encourage Creativity

The process of learning to play and/or eventually compose music does wonders for your creative side. Music is language, and learning to speak it helps you express your creativity and emotions in a new and positive way.

Have Fun

At the end of the day, playing an instrument is just downright fun! Instead of mindlessly binge-watching TV or scrolling through your Facebook feed, learning to play an instrument gives you a productive hobby that lasts a lifetime. Musicians have a blast whether they are playing on stage or in their basement, so pick up an instrument in 2020 and learn a fun new skill!

What Riff You Gonna Hear?

What Song Are You Gonna Hear At MGR STL?

Wayne’s World started a trend – a forbidden song trend – led by the all-time forbidden #1: Stairway to Heaven. Our opinion is if you can play that beauty – have at it. Masterpiece; always and forever! And, of course there are more on the ‘traditional’ ‘forbidden’ list: Sweet Child O’Mine, Smoke on the Water, […]

Fender Custom Shop

Top Shelf

At our ‘old’ store we had the Red Wall. It was where the cool high-end guitars and basses liked to hang out. It was a glorious attraction. Beautiful select gear framed in crimson for all to see and touch. At our ‘new’ shop we have lots more room. We have lots more inventory. So, we […]

Solid State Guitar Amplifiers

So I’m gonna confess something first and foremost: I’m a tube snob. I love the glass. I love the dynamic push and pull you get from having valves in an amplifier. Valves/tubes/glass – bottles of tone… BUT – let’s talk briefly about Solid State Amplifiers… They have their place. And in many cases – they […]

Ace.

Ace. Yeah, normally we talk about gear. And there will be hints of that here because we, nor he, could do what we/he do/did without the stuff. But. Let’s talk Ace. The Les Paul and Marshall pounding dynamo who has left for space. His home. Jendell in the Klaatu solar system. He wasn’t the most […]
