4th Annual Restring For Charity Event Smashes Last Year’s Record

April 27, 2018 by MGRSTL

CharityMusic Go Round – St. Louis held our annual Restring For Charity event April 13 supporting the St. Louis Food Bank, and following the trend of the last three years, 2018 was the best yet!

During the charity drive, local guitarists get a new set of D’Addario strings professionally installed by simply donating at least two non-perishable food items.

Each year since we started hosting the event, we have seen a marked increase in the amount of food collected for the hungry.

In 2015, our inaugural year, we collected 131 lbs. 2016 saw a bump to 161 lbs. 2017 increased to 210 lbs. This year, however, we saw a massive jump to 374 lbs. – a 78 percent increase over 2017!

With 41 electric and 25 acoustic strings changed over the course of the afternoon, the average donation came out to around 5 ½ lbs. per guitar. While two items of food were the minimum required for a set of strings, our customers were clearly much more generous and definitely deserve a standing ovation!

(We also want to shout-out our technicians who worked hard and efficiently to keep up with the steady stream of guitars throughout the day).

The St. Louis Food Bank is a non-profit hub that collects and distributes food donations for the entire St. Louis bi-state region. With millions of pounds of food collected each year, the STL Food Bank supports hundreds of thousands of needy people in the area.

The 374 lbs. we collected during this year’s Restring For Charity event was enough to provide 305 meals for needy families!

Thank you so much to everyone who made it out and donated; we even had a number of donations from people who weren’t there for a restring, which is just awesome. Giving back to our community is important to us, and we really appreciate all the help we received to make Restring For Charity drive a success – we couldn’t do it without our local musicians!

And if you weren’t able to make it but still want to give, STL Food Bank has a number of options available to help support the organization.

Keep making music and giving back, and hopefully next year will be even bigger! Thanks again!

Ace.

Ace. Yeah, normally we talk about gear. And there will be hints of that here because we, nor he, could do what we/he do/did without the stuff. But. Let’s talk Ace. The Les Paul and Marshall pounding dynamo who has left for space. His home. Jendell in the Klaatu solar system. He wasn’t the most […]

People Pay for That? “Relic’d”

We are talking about “Relic’d” gear. If you are new the game – “relic’ing” a piece of gear means to ‘beat it up’ intentionally. In the best possible way. Usually, the purpose is to make it look ‘old’. The preferred terms thrown around are ‘vintage’, “patina”, “well-played”, etc. Now, why on Earth would anyone pay […]

Boutique Amps – Oh Yes!

There are tried and true traditional amps: Marshall, Fender, Mesa Boogie, Peavey, Vox, Orange – etc. And we carry lots of those. We love them! You love them! But – there are smaller manufacturers out there that make very special amps for various applications. Usually, they are a cut above in construction, tone, reliability, etc. […]
