A Tale of Two Rics… 12-String Edition

August 19, 2016 by MGRSTL

It’s not too often we get some cool Rickenbackers in, but we hit the jackpot this month!  Two 12-strings in the very hip Jetglo & Fireglo finishes.  Both are very clean and well taken care of, with their original hard shell cases and case candy.  They also sound as good as the look!

First up…

Rickenbacker 660/12 Jetglo Electric 12-String

The Model 660/12 features a maple cutaway body based on an innovative design from the 1950s. A rosewood fingerboard is punctuated beautifully with triangular pearloid inlay markers, while the maple double-bound neck and body are solid through and through. Rickenbacker’s trademark “checkered” black and white binding sets off the body, while white binding graces the neck. The 660 is electronically engineered to the exacting standards of the vintage reissue series, complete with Rickenbacker’s own vintage reissue-type pickups.

From guitar-list.com-

“The Rickenbacker 660/12 is the 12 string version of the Rickenbacker 660. It has a solid maple body based on the classic Rickenbacker cresting wave design and a through body maple neck. The origins of the 660/12 began in 1991 as a limited edition model the Rickenbacker 660/12TP designed with input from Tom Petty and which bore his signature from 1991 to around 1998/1999. Tom Petty specified a wider neck than Rickenbacker usually used on their 12 strings, and the 660/12TP had a 1.75 inch wide nut. Other features of the 660/12 are like the 1963 Rickenbacker 625/12 model (apart from the 12 saddle bridge). Around 1000 of these 660/12TPs were made and proved very popular so from 1998/1999 onwards Rickenbacker carried on making the design from 1998 onwards as the 660/12 model.”

But Wait!!… there’s more –

Ace.

Ace. Yeah, normally we talk about gear. And there will be hints of that here because we, nor he, could do what we/he do/did without the stuff. But. Let’s talk Ace. The Les Paul and Marshall pounding dynamo who has left for space. His home. Jendell in the Klaatu solar system. He wasn’t the most […]

People Pay for That? “Relic’d”

We are talking about “Relic’d” gear. If you are new the game – “relic’ing” a piece of gear means to ‘beat it up’ intentionally. In the best possible way. Usually, the purpose is to make it look ‘old’. The preferred terms thrown around are ‘vintage’, “patina”, “well-played”, etc. Now, why on Earth would anyone pay […]

Boutique Amps – Oh Yes!

There are tried and true traditional amps: Marshall, Fender, Mesa Boogie, Peavey, Vox, Orange – etc. And we carry lots of those. We love them! You love them! But – there are smaller manufacturers out there that make very special amps for various applications. Usually, they are a cut above in construction, tone, reliability, etc. […]
