LATE 60S LUDWIG KEYSTONE 3-PIECE SHELLS

January 5, 2017 by MGRSTL

Blast from the past – In the door walks these very clean 60’s Ludwig Keystone drums.  The kick and floor are from 1966, and the high tom is from 1968, based on the interior stamps.   These drums are sought after by most drummers for their excellent tone and rich history.  After Ringo joined the Beatles and played his Ludwig kit on the Ed Sullivan show, The Ludwig Company blew up, and it was rare to find a drummer NOT using Ludwig.

Here’s a link to the listing on our website

9 x 13, 16 x 16, 14 x 20 – White Marine Pearl, stamped either 1966 or 1968.  Basically a “put together” Super Classic kit.  Some of the hardware is not original, but overall they fit the bill.

From www.vintageludwigdrums.com…

“The Super Classic model was a standard configuration for the industry and preferred by many drummers. It was compact enough for the gigging musician hauling gear loads to and fro. The four piece set up is enough to hold it’s own as a present force in any band setting. It still proves that way today. The dimensions of Super Classic outfits allow for versatile tuning ranges and tones complimenting anything from high tension jazz/bebop, to thumbing bold low/mids in rock/pop. The cost of the 4 piece drum kit was valued approximately $460 new (including hardware, but not cymbals) in the 1960s. Super Classic kit’s were available as a four piece configuration made from Ludwig’s innovative 3-ply shell mold with 5×14 supra-phonic snare.”

Fender Custom Shop

Top Shelf

At our ‘old’ store we had the Red Wall. It was where the cool high-end guitars and basses liked to hang out. It was a glorious attraction. Beautiful select gear framed in crimson for all to see and touch. At our ‘new’ shop we have lots more room. We have lots more inventory. So, we […]

Solid State Guitar Amplifiers

So I’m gonna confess something first and foremost: I’m a tube snob. I love the glass. I love the dynamic push and pull you get from having valves in an amplifier. Valves/tubes/glass – bottles of tone… BUT – let’s talk briefly about Solid State Amplifiers… They have their place. And in many cases – they […]

Ace.

Ace. Yeah, normally we talk about gear. And there will be hints of that here because we, nor he, could do what we/he do/did without the stuff. But. Let’s talk Ace. The Les Paul and Marshall pounding dynamo who has left for space. His home. Jendell in the Klaatu solar system. He wasn’t the most […]

People Pay for That? “Relic’d”

We are talking about “Relic’d” gear. If you are new the game – “relic’ing” a piece of gear means to ‘beat it up’ intentionally. In the best possible way. Usually, the purpose is to make it look ‘old’. The preferred terms thrown around are ‘vintage’, “patina”, “well-played”, etc. Now, why on Earth would anyone pay […]
