Music Go Round Supports St. Louis Blues Society’s “Road To Memphis”

October 25, 2017 by MGRSTL

Road to MemphisSt. Louis has an incredibly vibrant and diverse local music scene, which is why we are always looking for ways to help support our up-and-coming musicians.

Earlier this month, the St. Louis Blues Society held their annual “Road to Memphis” event, which is the local leg of the larger International Blues Challenge. We jumped at the opportunity to help support our city’s blues musicians by donating a signed guitar to help raise money for the organization.

Displayed at last month’s Big Muddy Blues Festival, all of the main stage artists were invited to sign the Ibanez electric.

The guitar was then raffled off during the “Road to Memphis” on Oct. 15 with all proceeds benefiting the St. Louis Blues Society.

Nine St. Louis Blues Bands Compete For IBC Spot

The International Blues Challenge is a yearly competition hosted by The Blues Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving blues heritage and celebrating blues recording and performance.

The IBC offers each affiliate of the Blues Foundation (like the St. Louis Blues Society) the chance to send a band or solo/duo act to represent them at the big event along historic Beale Street in Memphis. To determine who will go, the affiliates hold regional contests to find their best up-and-coming blues musicians.

Held at the Kirkwood Station Restaurant & Brewing Co., the St. Louis Blues Society “Road to Memphis” Blues Challenge selected two winners out of the nine contestants to represent St. Louis at the International Blues Challenge: Torrey Casey & The Southside Hustle and Kingdom Brothers Duo.

Music Go Round St. Louis would like to wish both groups the best of luck at the main event on Beale Street in January!

Supporting The Local Blues Community In St. Louis

MemphisWe love the music scene in our area; you’ll find awesome live music no matter what genre you listen to. And with the history of blues music in St. Louis, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to support the St. Louis Blues Society in any way we can.

From offering gift cards to performers at the Atomic Blues Festival and donating the signed electric during the “Road to Memphis,” to simply offering awesome deals on used gear to musicians in our community, we are always looking for ways to support St. Louis music.

If you have the chance to visit Memphis in January, be sure to check out the International Blues Challenge finals (Jan. 16-20) and support our St. Louis representatives.

And if you’re a local musician in the market for an upgrade, be sure to check out our inventory of awesome equipment and gear!

What Riff You Gonna Hear?

What Song Are You Gonna Hear At MGR STL?

Wayne’s World started a trend – a forbidden song trend – led by the all-time forbidden #1: Stairway to Heaven. Our opinion is if you can play that beauty – have at it. Masterpiece; always and forever! And, of course there are more on the ‘traditional’ ‘forbidden’ list: Sweet Child O’Mine, Smoke on the Water, […]

Fender Custom Shop

Top Shelf

At our ‘old’ store we had the Red Wall. It was where the cool high-end guitars and basses liked to hang out. It was a glorious attraction. Beautiful select gear framed in crimson for all to see and touch. At our ‘new’ shop we have lots more room. We have lots more inventory. So, we […]

Solid State Guitar Amplifiers

So I’m gonna confess something first and foremost: I’m a tube snob. I love the glass. I love the dynamic push and pull you get from having valves in an amplifier. Valves/tubes/glass – bottles of tone… BUT – let’s talk briefly about Solid State Amplifiers… They have their place. And in many cases – they […]

Ace.

Ace. Yeah, normally we talk about gear. And there will be hints of that here because we, nor he, could do what we/he do/did without the stuff. But. Let’s talk Ace. The Les Paul and Marshall pounding dynamo who has left for space. His home. Jendell in the Klaatu solar system. He wasn’t the most […]
